A new trend among Americans in the sunnier parts of the country is using motorcycles as commuter vehicles—and to be honest, it's a great idea. With the right biker commuter bag accessories, commuting on a motorcycle can save you lots of time and gas money.

Truth be told, this isn't really that new of an idea. Many parts of Southeast Asia have been using motorcycles as the de-facto commuter "car" of choice, specifically for this reason. Fuel economy is an issue throughout the world, you know!

This year has become the year of fuel efficiency and great mileage. If you want to cut your gas bills significantly, you might want to consider buying one of these super fuel-efficient motorcycles below.

2018 Motoped Pro 50/125

If you're not quite old enough to get fuel-efficient motorcycles, you might want to check out an equally fuel-efficient moped. Motoped's 2018 Pro 50/125 is slated to clock in at over 100 miles per gallon.

Sure, the 2018 Motoped Pro 50/125 might not be able to reach high speeds or hit the highway, but for a standard city commute, it offers a lot of bang for your buck. This is a great beginner motorcycle for newbies who aren't quite ready to shell out for a Harley.

2018 BMW C Evolution

Once again, this is technically not a motorcycle, per se, but a scooter. However, for the sake of this article, we're going to be counting it among fuel-efficient motorcycles, primarily because it has the best MPG rating out there.

Because the BMW C Evolution is an electric bike, there's no need to refuel. The 2018 model can go as far as 99 miles before it needs to be charged, making it one of the best commuter options out there on two wheels.

2018 Honda Africa CRF1000L DCT

Currently holding the title as the Best Fuel-Efficient Automatic Motorcycle by Gas2, the 2018 Honda Africa CRF1000L DCT is a fully-functional, true-to-form motorcycle meant for rugged adventure-touring style.

Even though the Honda Africa line is meant to be rugged, it's also still a line featuring some of the most fuel-efficient motorcycles out there. Riders can expect to get around 45 miles per gallon from this sweet ride. And most impressively, it's under $14,000 in price!

2018 Zero SR ZF14.4

These days, fuel-efficient motorcycles might not really need any fuel to keep going. If you want to avoid gas at all costs, but still want to drive a legit bike, then look no further than the 2018 Zero SR ZF14.4.

Made by the only exclusive manufacturer of electric bikes in the world, the SR is a seriously impressive item. This is a fully electric motorcycle that can ride for up to 200 miles, without needing to be charged. This rapidly-improving line of bikes has become one of the most impressive engineering feats of the automotive world.

Just this last iteration has seen the bike's charging time shrink sixfold; so we can't wait to see how the Zero SR evolves from here on out.

2018 Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster

If you're not quite feeling the "new school" brands making fuel-efficient motorcycles, hold onto your seat! Triumph, one of the oldest motorcycle manufacturers in America, has created one of the most fuel-efficient bikes on the market.

Granted, most people will buy a Speedmaster for its gorgeous design and high speeds. However, this is one purchase you need not feel guilty about—50 MPG makes it a really green option for bikers who don't want to be caught dead with a Prius.

2018 Honda Gold Wing

A lot of motorcycle riders love the beefy feel of a bigger bike hugging the road, which often will dissuade them from buying a motorcycle with high fuel efficiency.

Thankfully, Honda has swooped in with a futuristic looking bike that still can rank highly among the most fuel-efficient motorcycles on the market. Currently, the Honda Gold Wing gets around 35 miles per gallon and has endless levels of style.

It also looks like a real-world Tron cycle, so there's that issue too.

2018 Zero FX ZF7.2

Yes, Zero makes multiple highly fuel-efficient motorcycles worth considering—and the FX ZF7.2 is yet another one of them. This electric bike is known for being incredibly fast-charging, lightweight, and also boasts hot-swap battery pack technology.

So, while the Zero SM may be able to drive up to 200 miles between charges, the Zero FX can go for the longer haul, as long as you have a battery that's packed with juice to swap!

Piaggio MP3 500 Sport ABS

Last, but not least, is the Piaggio MP3 500, the only pick of fuel-efficient motorcycles to have three wheels instead of the standard two. This 500cc motorbike might not look like much, but make no mistake about it—it's a pretty impressive little number.

A maximum speed of 89 miles per hour, with a gas mileage of 55 MPG, makes this one of the most fuel-efficient ways to look cute while you cruise to work. With the Piaggio's sturdy build, you'll never have to worry about being late due to a bike breakdown, either.
